Windows 7 Release Candidate sudah tersedia untuk publik pada tanggal 5 Mei 2009, dan memang pada saat ini bagi yang berminat untuk mencoba Windows 7 RC, sudah dapat mulai mendownloadnya tanpa disertai batasan jumlah download dan product key-nya.

Penggunaan Windows 7 RC ini akan dibatasi sampai dengan tanggal 1 Juni 2010, namun begitu mulai tanggal 1 Maret 2010, komputer yang terinstall Windows 7 RC akan shutdown setiap dua jam sekali, di mana dua minggu sebelumnya akan ada notifikasi dari Windows 7 RC akan datangnya keadaan ini.

Jika Anda ingin mencoba Windows 7 RC ini, lebih dahulu Anda memastikan bahwa komputer yang akan diinstall Windows 7 RC sudah memenuhi kebutuhan minimal sistem, yaitu:

• 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
• 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
• 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
